Reviews for “Tarot: A Witch’s Journey”

This review is from: Tarot: A Witch’s Journey (Paperback)

Standard disclaimer: I was given this book for an objective review.

I am often disappointed in books about the craft but this one has a lot to offer. It’s main subject matter is TAROT. Each card is described, not in great detail, which there are videos out there that do, and while very informative, they can get quite boring. This isn’t like that – the author has taken each card and broken it down for the reader in such a way to give the reader an intuitive grasp of the card. This is exactly the insight that most beginners and intermediates to the tarot will need to understand in order to advance.

There’s also a good bit of helpful tips if one wants to give Tarot readings professionally – how to handle customers that are overly needy, talkative, or what to do for customers you just can’t read.

The middle to end of the book dives deeper into readings – readings to help solve crimes, with case studies, and then goes deeper yet into magickal correspondences – using the cards along with numerology and systems of Western magic in spells. Several examples of spells are given. Students that have studied Crowley’s system of using the tarot may particularly enjoy the very last of the book – it may not be as clear to beginning students but serious occultists should find it quite useful.

I would have liked to have seen the author expand her section on spreads and organize them with the case studies that were included with those a bit better. As a collector with over 500 volumes, I would also add that had the section on spreads been as clear as the rest of the book, I’d have given it a 5. It might have even put the book up there with some of my most beloved classics- IE Cunningham on herbs. It’s definitely a keeper and I look eagerly forward to more by this author.

This review is from: Tarot: A Witch’s Journey (Paperback)

“Tarot: a Witch’s Journey” is the book I have been waiting for since I was 17 yrs old. Yay for Amythyst for writing this and sharing her wisdom with her readers! One of the aspects that I really enjoyed about this book is the key of using intuition and the tarot which is how I read cards using intuition, my psychic sense, and the traditional meaning for the cards.

I really liked this whole book but the parts I really really enjoyed were the breakdown of each card and its meaning along with her personal voice or experience with each card. Anyone can re-word traditional meanings of the cards but Amythyst adds in her own VOICE, I feel like she was right in the room with me sharing her knowledge and wisdom. The section on Tarot and crimes really hit a nerve with me because of my involvement criminal justice system. Amythyst shared her personal readings of missing people cases and shared an outcome (if there was one). This chapter just made me respect the author more. {I really wish we lived in a society that would at least take into consideration the use of a proficient psychic in criminal cases} I also enjoyed the section on tarot and numerology which added a whole new level to explore when doing tarot readings, and tarot spells (there are some great spells in there that I can’t wait to try out!}

I was not really into the part about the kabbalah not because Amythyst did not express the topic well, she did a wonderful job, but because the kabbalah does not really interest me. I can see though, how it relates to the tarot. She has given me food for thought for further exploration in this area when I am ready to tackle that next step in my learning.

I wish that there was a “look inside” option for this book, look inside really helps a perspective buyer seal the deal, rather that relying on other buyers reviews, I think Amazon should require that on all books but that is just my opinion. Either way if you are on the fence about buying this book, I really enjoyed it, I could relate to it, and I know that it will be a treasured book in my library for many years to come! I can’t promise it will move mountains for you, every person is different, but it did for me.

Raine has offered a lot of information on witchcraft, in an easily digestible form and the book follows a logical progression throughout.

All in all, this book is not for the faint-hearted, but it is written with boldness, daring, courage and honesty. Whatever any individual’s personal thoughts on it are, it is a compulsive read, and appeals to the shadow side that everyone has within themselves somewhere. Highly recommended.

  3. Greetings, Yvette…You can get salt, including sea salt, at any grocery store, and it’s very inexpensive. You could also purchase a little incense, like sandalwood, to smudge yourself and your surroundings, and burn a white candle. I don’t know where you live, but here we can buy inexpensive incense right at our Hy-Vee grocery store in the health food section (go figure). The white candle you can pick up at any Wal-mart or Dollar Store.

    Magickally cleanse your space and see if things feel better.

    I own Tarot: A Witch’s Journey and it is a fantastic book and learning tool. I have been fascinated with the tarot and I have been dabbling in learning various tarot spreads and interpreting them over a period of many years. I do not read for others as I find myself still a novice in this study. I find the most difficutl part of reading the tarot is putting the interpretations of several cards in a spread together to make sense. Your book is extremely helpful in interpretation of the cards. I use it faithfully for guidance and reference. There is very useful information in the book on candle spells and conjure/mojo bags as well. I wouldn’t be without it! I am highly aniticipating your next book, “The Gray Witch’s Grimoire”.
